Embrace Bench Plywood Version

A bench with an understated yet structurally elegant detail - Laminated Europly plywood
What is that understated and elegant detail?

(Image Quality Note: The plywood image in the two front views are not reflective of the true plywood grain. The detail images are correct)

This is my faovrite design. originally conceived as a challenge to myself to use a single 4x8 sheet of plywood and taking inspiration from the famous Nelson Bench. The Embrace bench is solidly on the ground with the leg frams at the extreme ends. The bench top and leg frames are structrually connected via the aluminum rods. the understated and elegant detail is the c-shape grooves under the bench that grip or "embrace" the rods. Once the rods are inserted through the leg frame holes and the c-grooves, the structure is complete. There are no fasterns or adhesives needed.

The connection is all done via the deliberate design and the precision fit.

I designed this in 2004 and 10 years on, it is still my favorite piece.

PS, the Embrace is also scalable in height, length and depth; many different versions have been made for different client's site specific requirement.

As shown in the photos, the bench is 17"d x 60"w x 17"h
