Embrace Bench Timberstrand Version

A bench with an understated yet structurally elegant detail - Laminated Timberstrand lumber
What is that understated and elegant detail?

Following the same design of the original Embrace Plywood bench, I learned of an engineered lumber material called Timberstrand. This product is made from highly compressed strands of poplar and aspen, two fast growing trees of little structural value as lumber. However, by cutting the logs into strands and undergoing a steam and compression process with a small amount of resin, a new stable new lumber material is born.

For furniture application, I rip the lumber into strips and re-glue the strips into planks to showcase the random edges of the strands.

When presented in this method, the wood conveys a very mysterious appearance.

As shown in the photos, the bench is 17"d x 60"w x 17"h
